A Stolen Summer Day

Friday noon I followed a deep urge to escape. The sun was out like I remembered summers, not to hot, yet cheerful and the air was heavy with flower scents.
Without my dogs I drove through the beautiful green landscapes of Marin, past the black and white cows - I call them Dalmatian cows. Past the grape vineyards, naked, standing already erect like little soldiers, in rows after rows, waiting for the first green to break through, the first grapes leaves to appear. I love California.
I drove to Isis Oasis, in Geyserville, about an hour north of Oakland.
This is the place I am returning to work after five years. We are gathering here on Mother’s Day weekend for a retreat (read the Events section of this site for more info.) The place was empty. The clean swimming pool shimmered in the sun, the hot tub Jacuzzi bubbling away.
A little heaven was here to for me to enjoy. Careful, not like in the old days, I swam around - mostly hand strokes, using my legs just a little.
Isis statues looking back at me approvingly. I listened to birds, one of the peacocks was vocalizing, a mix of beauty and not.
My back against the strong water current in the hot tub, I felt lots of tension scraped off my back. Oh how happy that I dared the traffic and escaped! Then traffic went totally the different direction on the way back. All the poor people in their cars inching their way to their summer homes, I was zooming back on a free road.
My heart lifted up with the sight of green grass and cows, and grape soldiers, and birdsong.
